About
We're going walking in Wallingford. The Wallingford Community Senior
Center and Sustainable Wallingford are initiating weekend walks around
the neighborhood. You will get some exercise and increase your
familiarity with your own backyard. Generally there will be two walks
each month. We'll meet at the Tully's at 45th and Meridian, rain or
shine. The date and time will vary. At least once a month we'll feature
a walkie-talkie. We have two walks scheduled in April.
April 13, Sunday. 10:30 am - walk leader Mona Memmer - a short walk, no
longer than 1 hr. Perhaps a little slower so little tykes with still
short legs can keep up. We’ll see the world’s largest ladybug.
April 26, Saturday. 1 pm - walk leader Nancy Merrill - Subject: The
trees of Wallingford and what would make a good street tree for your
home. Nancy is a Seattle Dept of Transportation Tree Steward and the
founder of the It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood Tree Planting
Project. The project has carried out dozens of successful tree planting
programs in Wallingford. We will see some of these plantings and some of
the more unusual trees in the neighborhood. About 2 hours.
Future walkie-talkies include a tour of our Wallingford parks with local
advocates of the parks to tell us of their features and history,
including the “secret” hidden pea-patch; the “Aboveground Tour” of
Wallingford history; and a tour of excellent examples of Wallingford
residential architecture.
