I'd like a search box for searching all suggestions by keyword so I don't duplicate someone else's suggestion ( or my own since my memory is terrible!)
|

Does the system have the capability to nest (relate visually) the suggestions and questions so I can see what's really new and what's a comment about/or reply to an existing suggestion, for example? I'm getting really confused about the different labels and areas since there are Suggestions, Feedback Questions, report Technical Difficuties <- all labels around the site in different areas, but not matching up one-to-one so that I know specifically that I'm entering a suggestion, a feedback, a report of difficulty, or a question.... sorry to be so in need of specificity! Just don't want to bum anyone out adding specific questions in the wrong area....

I agree with Tricia's suggestion of email alerts and want to suggest expanding alerts to the alerting and possible forwarding (to txt mssg or other email accts) of emails coming into the system addressed to the user with a direct link to the original message on wiser earth (to keep me coming back to wiser earth)... Also - for this suggestion page - having the button/link title changed to Add Suggestion instead of Add Comment would be more clear. I hope I'm adding a suggestion, for example, and not adding a comment on top of another suggestion?

Gil,
Thanks for reporting this bug. We are aware of it and will have the tech team working on it soon. It is nice to see you on WiserEarth. Peggy |

Congratulations on the launch!!!
A couple of people have asked me if and when you're planning to enable your site for OpenID login. Could you please let me know if you have a timeline? Thanks! |

I just posted a job - 5 minutes ago - but the system says it was "First Posted -1yr 11mo 29d 23h 56m ago." Can someone maybe wind the clock? ;-)

Just a couple thoughts. I've been posting jobs today and noticed that there isn't a place to put an organization name while filling out "Job Info", it just automatically says "None". Can that change? Also, I was wondering if it was possible to add some more User Function options(job catagories).

Hi Rebekah,
I'm glad that you are thinking of ways that WiserEarth can improved. For your areas of focus suggestion, perhaps you could check out the AoF discussion page at http://wiserearth.org/article/ProposalsAof/ and you could begin a discussion on the topics you are interested in. If you have a lot of great sources for web sites on this subject, then please share them with the community by adding them as resources to the database. Just click Add a Resource in the left navigation bar. For your business to be found by organizations and people, that feature will be directly addressed with the release of WiserBusiness. WiserBiz will interface with WiserEarth and allow precisely those connections you are trying to make. With regards to your suggestions about the taxonomy, remember that the goal of WiserEarth is to be transparent, democratic, and community driven. As more people become invested in the site, hopefully their vast array of knowledge and experience will strengthen and expand the taxonomy and information. Hopefully some of those users will be the very people you have suggested, and they will help to make WiserEarth a resource that empowers the people working towards a sustainable civil society. Thanks for your input and please keep it coming. peace, dan;el |

I would like to recommend that a new area be developed on the web site for nonprofits/ngo's to connect with socially responsible businesses and social entrepreneurs, and for those businesses and social entrepreneurs to connect with each other as well. I am an independent information professional offering information and research services to socially conscious organizations, businesses and nonprofits. As the site is presently designed there is fundamentally no way for any organization to find me or my services. I would also suggest that librarians/information professionals be employed with this project to gain the kind of access and versatility that is needed here. Professional librarians/info professionals have years of training and experience in information organization, search methodologies, information access, taxonomies, etc. Wiser could be far more effective with design input from these professionals.

There is an important area of focus that has been left out and that is the proliferation of wireless technologies and their negative impact on humans and the environment. People all over over the world are beginning to understand the dangers inherent in these technologies and taking steps to educate the public, protest cell towers and WiFi, advocate for sound telecommunications policy that protects public health, etc. This area of focus should be under Pollution, as in "Electromagnetic Pollution." There are many excellent web sites from the US and Europe on the subject that can be added.

I've got two comments/requests:
1) The organization name should be much more prominent on a page. In order to make it apparent as a page title, the rest of the page currently have to be too light. Alternatively, it should be possible to choose a style (could be predefined)for the header. 2) The "Edit Name" and "Edit this Page" takes far too much attention and real-estate away from the rest of the page. I would love to see the "Edit Name" feature being folded into the "Edit this Page" dialog, and the "Edit this Page" link being folded into the right-hand utility links, possiby in an alternative color. Thank you! |

Having templates to help new organizations come into form is a great resource. They are currently only available when the organization is new, i.e. you cannot get to the templates from the edit/about.
I suggest we make the templates available even after the organization has been created. This will help people know what a complete profile looks and it will help them with the HTML they may not be familiar with. |
|
Thanks Molly, that would be great! I've also noticed that when I'm searching through organizations, the description tends to cut off mid-word. This seems a little awkward, is there any way to make sure it ends on the completion of a word or a punctuation mark?? Keep up the great work!

Hi Tim-
We've discussed either creating a 'break page' for the Areas of Focus page, or a drop-down menu as you suggested. A break page would be a page that opens up from the homepage that highlights the main portals only, which link to each individual group of subportals. This would be a bit less overwhelming...I'll add a drop-down menu to or ever-growing to-do list! (see Feedback->Read Questions). |
|
When I go the the Areal of Focus page, I become overwhelmed by the sheer number of categories, and the length of the page. Why not oragnize it dropdown menus, such that each Main Area is visible right away (maybe 11x4 grid?) and the user can then click on Main Area tab, and have all the sub-areas drop down. Perhaps this would open in a new tab/window. You can also probably eliminate the numbers of orgs, people, resources, etc. because people will be able to get that at the area's portal.
This site is amazing!!! I'm learning so much! |

Good to see you around the site Jon,
I updated your suggestion into the suggestion box. For the moment, people could certainly add their personal website in the about section of their profile. There is a concurrent issue with profiles, that when adding a profile the about section is not open. So when they get back to their profile, they think the only way to talk about themselves is in the comment section and not in the about section. Which is something we've ticketed as a bug. peace dan;el |
|
The "Person profile" currently has no field for personal website. I suggest we consider adding it; a few people I have helped had a website about themselves, distinct from any websites associated with organizations they are affiliated with.

The only problem Mark is that I see it when I am already signed up. Be best if you set the page so if the user has not got the cookie, they see this, and if they have, they see something else. What? I would love to have a daily suggestion. 'Welcome SorenG. Do you have an organization you may want to add today?" This can change each day or week to highlight an activity.

Starting from the bottom - email alerts, great idea this one will soon be pushed into the tech department and ticketed so it can be implemented. You can track its progress and participate in the deliberation by finding it in the suggestion box.
As for the "add comment" and the ability to search for previously made suggestions the tech team is currently developing a discussion forum which will enable users to track and search comments, suggestions, questions, discussions to a much greater degree than what we currently have.
as for the nesting idea, that sounds interesting. if you would not mind explaining it to me further i can create the next level of develop around your idea.
as for joining networks via an html invitation page, this too sounds like a great idea. i would be glad to work with you on a this concept if you have an example or would like to explain it further. you can message me at my profile or email.
thanks for your suggestions.
