The Little Big Horn Victory Celebration in Montana, on June 25, 2008 is “Sovereignty In Action.” This is the 15th anniversary of the Lakota and Northern Cheyenne warriors’ and is the largest gathering of 1st nation descendants of the Battle of Greasy Grass in 132 years. Over 500 Lakota horseman, elders, walkers, singers and dancers, will be participating and 80% of the riders are children. It is 1st nation people reclaiming their dignity, respect and spirituality by revitalizing the language and culture in action.

The Lakota People are a strong indigenous 1st nation warrior culture. In the 1800’s they defended their freedom in living and ways of being by resisting colonialism’s repressive attacks and massacre of women and children. The Lakota settled constitutionally twice with the USA government 1851 and 1868. The USA broke the 1868 treaty in 1876 and attacked the Lakota and Northern Cheyenne native peoples on June 25, 1876. The USA was defeated and 14 years latter the Lakota People suffered the last blow of colonial aggression at the Wounded Knee Massacre and have endured the oppression of government, religion and educational systems. Yet, their language and culture survives.

The Lakota language constitutes their sovereignty and identity as a nation. Maka Si Tomni is a non sectarian, non denominational, non governmental, non partisan grass root organization dedicated to the revitalization of the language. The Lakota language is a priceless sacred language that is connected to the mystery of life, the family and social relations is the altar of existence in natural law, and the rocks, stars, plants and animals are legitimate-in-coexistence in daily living. The wisdom of this way of being "a loving animal (two legged)" was pass down from grandparents to grandchildren orally for generations. The Lakota People have a special responsibility for the “Black Hills” of South Dakota through their creation story “The Great Race” which is very relevant to the predatory chaos present in the globalization of the planet. The Great Race offers a positive end to predatory chaos of modernity.

We invite professional media, journalists, writers, film, and social activists to create a relationship with Maka Si Tomni Council. The Lakota People have established over the past 15 years the confidentiality of this spiritual gathering at Little Big Horn and this year intend to tell the Lakota Story. All media, filming, photographs and reporting relationships regarding the Little Big Horn Victory Celebration are “Confidential Communications - Private Business” matters. If you or the mediums you represent are interested in participating in this history-making event and learning about the wisdom of the Lakota language and culture, please apply.

Maka Si Tomni Productions is creating a public documentary entitled “The Lakota Ride Again.” The filming is in production and is going to be completed during the June 25, 2008 Victory Celebration. Consider the film as a new episode of “Reality TV” in real-time and pure-play. The artistic creativity of this film celebrates the way of Hunter Thompson operated as a writer, “you put yourself into the work and your artistic expression emerges as a piece of living art.” Oglala Lakota Chief Wilmer “Stampede” Mesteth and elder societies of the Lakota People spiritually direct the media team. The film is produced and directed by Tony Brave, Executive Director of MST Productions. WE have a 2-hour demo DVD available on the Internet. It offers an introduction to the “Lakota Paradigm” and the gravitas of the Lakota people story in sustaining their language and culture, the significance of the Battle of Greasy Grass on June 25th 1868, and footage of the Crazy Horse and Little Big Horn rides and testimonials.

The theme of the Little Big Horn Victory Celebration is “Peace through Unity.” The Little Big Horn National Monument is “Sacred Hollow Ground” and US Veterans of the 7th Calvary lost their lives in the Battle of Greasy Grass. In the Lakota sacred traditions, ways of being and understanding of “warriorhood” respecting their opponents, they pray equally for the bravery they demonstrated. Maka Si Tomni is a circle of traditional elders, chiefs and common men taking action in solidarity to serve the emerging Lakota 7th generation in the Lakota creation story that has relevance in all of our lives. The Little Big Horn Victory Celebration is about the Lakota children getting back up on their horses and bringing forth a thriving Lakota language and culture. It is spiritual event and rests always already in the natural law that the Lakota People have practiced for thousands of years. WE look forward to working with you!
