Twitter Feeds to/from Wiserearth +4
Problem: I've just started using twitter, and it seems to me like it has HUGE potential to get wiserearth type people signed to the site. it would be great if the wiser site could accept 'tweets' into profiles.
Solution: I currently use PING.FM as a dashboard to make comments that are then fired to my facebook, linkedin, plaxo and twitter pages - there are lots of other options in PING.FM, but no wiserearth. Angus suggests creating a 'Status' line for this to happen...
Notes: Would require the creation of a status bar in the friend feed module on the personal dashboard.

I like both ideas - we could have the status bar in the friend feed syndicate to your WiserEarth friends and to Ping.fm and have WiserEarth as the source for Ping.fm. Not sure if it would confuse people to be able to do both? But for sure both would be possible given the functionality was built into WE and we used the WE API. Its a question of priorities as always. I'll ask Honore to put this on the list - first step would be simply to have the status bar exist. Then we can take it from there.

Hi guys, Only just clocked in again. Yes bowo - I'd love to have the Wiser Site as the place I'm based, from which I could stream to Ping and then have it bounced on to my other networks by them. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how/where to start a blog where I can jot down what I'm doing/am thinking - and I'm reluctant to start using yet another on-line space - it looks like I can open a 'blogger' account, but have it hosted somewhere else if I know the server details - so I'm guessing I could set up the blogger to work from my wiserearth profile/dashboard or something.... I'm afraid this is where I go into techno melt-down! Best Mike |

Re-reading Mike's original suggestion, I think he was suggesting that WiserEarth be on Ping.fm's list so that he could update 'status' on WiserEarth from their interface.
Streaming tweets to our dashboard's friendfeed would be a rather different idea, which is also interesting and useful.
Another possibility (that Mike just alerted me about) is to be able to send a message from WiserEarth to Ping.fm, which would then forward it to all the other networks (facebook, twitter, friendster, wordpress, flickr, etc.). This would enable people to use WiserEarth as their homebase to post stuff across their networks. Now... this would be brilliant!!!
Btw, this is similar to the ShareThis button we have on WE pages but different in that what we send out custom messages (text and images, and soon video according to Ping.fm's website).
Am I getting this right Mike? If so, would you like to change the title and content of this suggestion page? |

@ Camilla: The Twitter side is pretty easy - they have an API - on WiserEarth side we would need new functionality in the friendfeed module in the dashboard - that would take time. Syndicating your Tweets via a news feed into the new News module will be possible in the next couple of week - but that doesn't really provide the functionality.

This would be good to test out. How big of a technical job is this?

@Bowo: I think we are talking about Twitter to WiserEarth friendfeed. Best, Angus

We have "WiserEarth to Twitter" via the ShareThis button (the one below Actions box on this and almost every other page).
Status update that can be synchronized with other services would be useful and helpful. |

@Mike:
No real blogging feature in WE yet. But you can set up a blogger or wordpress account. No way to post from WE though...
I have a blog hosted on edublogs.org, write and post using a desktop software, then list latest posts manually on my WE profile page. We can imagine adding an RSS module in personal profile that can automatically fetch latest posts from your blog. But if you intend to blog professionally/seriously, it's better for now to use one of those solid blog provider, with a URL of your own (e.g. www.mikezeidler.com).
Question is, should we have a blogging feature in WE? Would people use it?
Here's a popular suggestion page on enabling blogging in WE:

On updating: one solution for someone like you would be the ability to post anything to everything via email. Most blog providers can do this, so does ping.fm. We can think of enabling WE status updates via email, which will then be forwarded to ping.fm and to all other networks.
