List of Implemented Community Suggestions

Edit this Page
This page is part of the WiserEarth Suggestions group. Below is a list of suggestions from WiserEarth community in the group that received enough support and implemented as standard features.

This is not an exhaustive list, since not all suggestions were channeled via the group, but we'll try to keep this list updated to show that your feedbacks, suggestions and ideas matters! They do get implemented, improve WiserEarth and benefit the whole community.

  1. Increase to 15-20 Number of Visible Lines in Comment Box. This should provide greater visibility when writing longer comments (suggested by SustainableDavid)
  2. Comments can now be edited within 30 minutes of posting - as requested by the community, we are now allowing our users the ability to make changes or corrections to a comment within 30 minutes.  This should allow for some quick fixes without the risk of people removing comments that might affect the structure of a discussion.
  3. Explanation for "Send a Friend Request". We are now providing a dialog box for users to type in a message when asking someone to become part of their network. (suggested by Sheri Herndon)
  4. Groups - A Few More Characters When Displaying Events
  5. Ability to "manage" related groups (suggested by Bowo)
  6. Network - Automatically adding Relationship Links. Anything created by a user becomes part of their network.  So if a user has posted a job, created an event listing, or added a new entry for an organization, that will now automatically go into their network.(suggested by Angus Parker)
  7. Groups' bulletin boards each have their own revision history now. What does this feature does is it saves a copy of each change to a bulletin board.  If a group administrator makes a mistake, they can always click on "Show History" and choose to return to a earlier revision (suggested by Tori Jacobs)
  8. Group - Multiple bulletin boards. Group administrators can now drag and drop as many bulletin boards as needed into their group. Bulletin boards are really just blank html canvases, and can be used in any way possible.  You could potentially cover your entire group page with bulletin boards, and customize each one to showcase different kinds of content.
  9. When editing a a comment, the "Edit comment" has been changed to "Save changes" (suggested by Angus Parker)
  10. Group admins can now "Manage" the "Related Groups" section. This means they can remove groups from the list, and to also set a group as a "sticky" (suggested by Bowo)
  11. New relationship types has been added to the Network, including "client", "consultant", and "funder" (suggested by Angus Parker)
  12. Groups - Admins can choose to be notified anytime a new member joins. Previously, admins were only notified if a visitor applied or was referred to the group.  Now, we'll allow admins to choose to be notified anytime someone has joined their group. (suggested by Bowo).
  13. Groups  - "Join Group" buttons moved to the "home" tab.  By popular request, we've moved the links to join a group to the "home" tab, and also made that the default page that a user will see when clicking on  a group (suggested by Tori Jacobs)
  14. User control over comments - After hearing from multiple community members who wanted greater control over their profile, we now allow users to remove comments as they deem fit on their profile.
  15. Groups frame feature revised - We had heard that the way users had to "remain" within a group were confusing, especially if they were trying to navigate to other parts of the site.  The group banner will still stay on top of the group, but if a user clicks on links, they won't be forced to view  the rest of the site within the group frame.  Also, we'll provide a link on the upper left corner to "return" to the group.
  16. AoF - Areas of Focus listings now include statistics for groups, so you can see  how many groups have tagged themselves with a particular Area of Focus.
  17. More buttons in TinyMCE toolbar - allows users to choose font family, font color, indent, paste from word, and a few others.
  18. Forums - sort by ascending or descending order
  19. Including For-Profit and Public Agencies on WE
  20. Network relationships - clean up list, add in reciprocal relations
  21. Edit options - renamed link to "Edit title" for greater clarification
  22. Indigenous People AOFs renamed Indigenous Peoples - in conformance with general practice (UN etc) (suggested by Jon Ramer
  23. RSS News Feed
  24. Watchlist: Cancel/Zero Out Watchlist Alert Labels
  25. Home Button on Every Page
  26. Reduce/Eliminate pictures on Home Page
  27. Rapid sharing widget

Thanks for the link updates Honore. Though I did notice that I have edit privileges on this page for some reason; I could have done the updates myself. :)

It looks like the first six suggestion article links need updating: they each probably just need to start with "http://www.wiserearth.org/article/".

Also, it would be nice to see the dates when these suggestions were implemented... Or at least, month or year sections. That way, it would give a sense of the rate of progress.
