Student FAQs

- As a student I am so busy! Why should I take the time to join WiserEarth?

Students in the 21st Century are bombarded by opportunities for Internet profiles. Facebook, myspace, friendster, tribe, there are so many options! On WiserEarth, however, your online identity is hooked in to a network promoting positive change across the globe. WiserEarth also creates a personal network for you, connecting the groups, organizations, jobs, people, and events you have chosen to affiliate with. WiserEarth is a community network to bring people and knowledge together to facilitate change.

- What does WiserEarth have to offer students specifically?
WiserEarth hosts profiles for more than 100,000 non-profits organizations, and is now allowing the inclusion of for-profits and government agencies into its directory.  Additionaly, WiserEarth has thousands of groups, events, resources, and jobs for students to access right at their fingertips. From Agricultural Policy to Women’s Rights WiserEarth's "areas of focus" allow you to use the site as a research tool when writing papers, looking for jobs and internships, and getting involved with non-profits. Use WiserEarth as a tool for yourself while helping the global sustainability effort.

- How can WiserEarth help enhance my campus group?
WiserEarth is the perfect way to coordinate and communicate with your student organization. The first step is to make a profile for your student organization on WiserEarth. Then, start a group, which will be the hub of activity for your cause. Group pages allow members to have online discussions, create and collaborate on wiki documents, post resources, and list current events and jobs. You can also affiliate yourself with other groups in the region and across the world who share your passion. Your group network encompasses all the jobs, areas of focus and organizations that you chose to connect yourself with.

- I am trying to plan an on-campus event, how can WiserEarth help?
There are so many events on college campuses, it is often difficult to get the word out and have people listen. WiserEarth allows you to create a page for your event, connect it to sponsoring groups and organizations, start pre & post event discussions, and share materials. Because WiserEarth uses a wiki format, other people can add and edit your event page to help you keep it up to date. They can also help you publicize by adding your event to their network.

- How will my WiserEarth profile help me after I graduate?
Because WiserEarth allows organizations and individuals to post jobs according to areas of focus, you can search for jobs after you graduate using the areas in your network. WiserEarth can also be used as a catalogue of non-profits, where you can browse organizations to see their latest projects and how you can become involved. WiserEarth allows graduates to integrate the groups, events, and jobs they were involved with in college with those discovered after college, creating one large, continuous network.
