What WiserEarth users are saying . . .
"I'm especially excited about being able to participate more fully in the WiserEarth site -- what a gift it is to everyone. I appreciate how it contributes to networking and expect to take advantage of more of its features....In particular, I see the benefits of making interdisciplinary "crossover" connections among organizations and institutions, e.g. artists with community development specialists, environmentalists with social justice advocates."

"Thank you for turning me on to WiserEarth.org. I interviewed a potential new volunteer today. She found Maitri's info on the Wiserearth website just days after I signed up. So it's already paying off. Thanks for the tip. You're brilliant!!"
Stan, USA
"Our organization does not yet have a web-sites. Reason is no money for this (including for english version of web). We are trying to do this, but it can be not so easy and soon. I have sent you my profile information and resources for the project."
Kaisha, Kazakhstan
"This is a good example of the community realizing that we can join efforts."

"OH MY GOD THIS SITE IS AMAZING!!!!! I can¹t wait to explore it more, as I¹ve just begun to skim the surface, but I¹ve been wanting there to be a sitethat lists organizations all over the world like this based on categories, and then linking them to each other, and finding ways of helping people network. Not only is it an amazing educational tool, but it provides resources for people wanting to get plugged in who don¹t know how to find these groups. Whether someone wants to volunteer in their community, needs help researching for their thesis, or wants to find a group doing specific work in a foreign country they want to go delve into, it¹s all here and REALLY well done!!! Kudos!"

"Just wanted to tell you that there is a woman from Guinea in our office. She got on the end of the call so was just asking me for the background and instructions on WiserEarth. I explained it to her, told her how it has groups all over the world and invited her to check out the listings under Guinea. She laughed and said there wouldn¹t be any. We got on it together and there were not only listings but 41 just in her town. I wish you could have seen her smile of delight. What a great thing to have created a tool that will elicit smiles of delight like that all over the world."
Annie, USA
"Merci pour la bienvenue a WiserEarth. c'est vraiment merveilleux!"

"We like how the WiserEarth platform incorporates the best of a Wiki with a community concept and functionality, among other things."
John, USA
WiserEarth is a great resource and I truly appreciate its availability. I noticed most of these comments are from users with relatively low-activity profiles... and none of the comments are recent.
It brings to mind the purpose of NCI: "We believe that we are moving from a world that is created by the privileged, to a world created by community. This change in the loci of power calls for a new system of awareness, support, communication, and collaboration. That is WISER’s purpose."
An admirable purpose.
As a "fiercely independent" member of the movement... I find the above statement conflicting with the current money influenced system. Our recent discussion with regard to including For Profit Organizations on WiserEarth reaffirmed that in reality on this website there is an "authority to check in with".
The authority may or may not welcome support, communication and collaboration... depending on their personal choice. And that choice is a product of a priviledged status, which is a product of financial participation.
A personal attempt at offering a solution to some Communications, Outreach, Marketing, Youth- Involvement issues confirmed that their are inconsistencies between language and operating practices present with regard to the Natural Capital Institute. This involved multiple staff members and thus cannot be brushed off as an individual indiscretion.
My humble/ challenging question would be: can you prove that WISER honors its purpose with multiple concrete, specific, real-world examples? An example that honors the literal language of the purpose?
If you can't shouldn't the language be changed?
A short visit/ limited activity on WiserEarth inspires enthusiasm, wonder and appreciation. But upon looking deeper I feel that I see hypocrisy. Perhaps I will be proved to have been mistaken? Or maybe that is just the nature of the world...
Regardless -- A great internet resource. Respectfully,
JT, USA
