Suggestions received from new users as we were in the computer lab

Bioneers 2008

  • New user registration: after a person creates his/her profile, they are confused on what they can do

Suggestion: to re work the default page that user lands on after selected the areas of focus

  • New user registration: During profile creation it is unclear that you can select multiple 'I am' roles.

Suggestion: to re work the profile creation page with tick boxes instead of a drop down.

  • New user registration: the AOF selection is not intuitive, clicking on arrow to select AOF is not intuitive. On that same page the next or finish button at the bottom, out of sight, should be at the top.

Suggestion: to have as default view the search box for areas of focus (and remove all the list of areas of focus). This list could only appear during search result. As for the selection of AOF, is there a way for the application to automatically select it if a user double click on an AOF

  • New user registration:  The "time zone" dropdown menu stumped tow people who were creating a new organization.
Suggestion: Remove timezone as a required field, or use graphical map of timezones to select from.

  • Group: If you are a part of a group and participating in a discussion, you should receive the replies through your email and you can reply through your email, and it also shows up in the discussion. (similar to Yahoo groups).

  • Home page--people don't know what to do
Suggestion (ian): The homepage should probably be an ongoing discussion, but I think it could be longer, with more scrolling lists of the latest groups, organizations, forums and wikipages.

  • Comments- Alert people to Make a  Comment at the top of the page, because people often do not scroll down.

  • Watchlist- people would prefer to not receive an alert when someone connects to a piece of information
  • FAQ: too overwhelming
Suggestion:a student showed me the default FAQ of change.org (http://www.change.org/info/faqs) and suggested that the FAQ was have on the navigation is more simple
