I'd like to be able to put a "push" WE gadget in my sidebar (at http://theredmullet.blogspot.com for example) that does the "Today's featured organization -- event -- portal thingy, but veritically, and that rotates when the WE copy rotates, with linkback. So that visitors to my site will see something like the illustration below, changing regularly without my intervention, like a Flickr gadget, and be able to click through to WE. I'd do it myself if I knew a little more and better luck building gadgets than I've had -- and had the time ...

Three hours tinkering with choppy HTML-fu, an early version of a WiserEarth widget is almost ready to go. If it passes the review within a day or two, the "Featured on WiserEarth.org" widget will be published in widgetbox.com and ready to be embedded to Blogger, Wordpress, Typepad, iGoogle, NetVibes, FreeWebs, PageFlakes and Ning. With further tweaks it should be good for Facebook and Bebo too! Stay tuned to http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/wiserearth
 Here's a screenshot of how it would look like on a website/blog sidebar (without the black space):  Currently, it's a 160x980 pixels widget and needs manual code updating to reflect changes to the featured contents on WiserEarth homepage. Anyone got some programming-fu to automate this? |

That would be pretty cool to offer, and it'd be great if we could open this suggestion up to the community, and see if there are volunteer developers who'd be willing to make this a fun side-project. Definitely something to keep in mind!
