The Wiserbusiness Certification could evolve to go hand in hand with Wiservid competition... the Wiservid campaigns would certify the businesses.
WE can include appropriate government and for - profit entities under the plan that evolved from the Partners 'Summit' established last December (qouting jon ramer) and add an extra Certification Category for Wiser Business Certification. From a purist's perspective it diminishes the value of the whole process... yet it would be a compromise ... it could be modified or dumbed down a little bit, but not much. I think this would be a brilliant strategic move for the greater social justice/ environmental community (specifically NCI). With some basic connections combined with my energy translated into a major role in co-operatively designing the whole thing= it will be a winner. (harness the energy constructively.)
Lets see some better ideas, more creative and effective?... if we do not try ... how do we know it will not work...? It solves Strategic-Positioning, Funding, Outreach, Publicity, Marketing, involving Students/ Youth: from Ketharin "I want to know WHY I should be so interested in it" and a host of other issues that confront all of us within the global environmental / social justice movement (not just wiserearth.org/ NCI).
Wiservid will not be directly connected with WiserEarth = except thru the fact that both are projects facilitated thru NCI connections. Thus essentially the Wiser acronym and WiserEarth will get tremendous exposure thru association with the competition in an indirect way; WiserEarth.org will take no money and be separate (individual donors consistent with the current practices).
One of the many genius traits of wiservid will be that it will not have a direct presence on WiserEarth = it will just be the localized groups/ projects that will have a presence, as they utilize the resource to expand their network and make the needed local and global connections to design a competitive campaign; thus the implementation of the project will not alter the tone of the site -- instead the opposite will happen, as WiserVid gains momentum people who become involved in the project thru various means will be led to WiserEarth.org and will be empowered / educated and subtley influenced thru the contagion of subconscious modeling... all of which will bring the social justice / environmental movement into the mainstream in a rapid, exciting, efficient way...
I think a realistic goal for the first year would be to target U.S. - based undergraduate level environmental/sustainability groups, personally connect with each on-campus organization nationally and provide them with ample incentive/ motivation to network within their community and on Wiserearth.org to develop a winning Wiser*** campaign.
Students from such groups will do a great job expanding the WiserEarth network / fleshing out the mapping directory and will have an awesome oppurtunity to involve their school/ local community in an exciting annual Wiser*** project. It will be sustainable model: each year they will target a different business (perhaps a new global cause to target each year as well... which will add an interesting dimension to the competition...), and the seniors will graduate and a new group of budding environmentalist /activists will become part of the project. The students are still developing at this point; so their involvement with WiserVid and WiserEarth will position them to make the right kind of connections to have significant positive impact on the world during their lifetime.
The National television exposure combined with the cutting-edge technology prizes and the potential for a role in a reality television show/ internships (with companies like Pax Scientific, NCI, Hybrid Cars, other green/ socially responsible Businesses etc. )... for the students with the most competitive campaign(s)... will expand the diversity of these on-campus environmental groups; it will actively attract students who otherwise might not be interested/ involved, which will ultimately work to expand the defining demographic of the Wiser Community (Global Environmental/ Social Justice movement ), and subsequently improve its effectiveness:.... WiserVid will be "cool"=mainstream=effective.

A successful U.S. National Competition built around the real-world institutional framework of American Colleges / Universities will position Wiser*** to become an international competition in the future, and will exponentially expand WiserEarth's influence / activity...
The priorities appear to be:
1.develop and publish firm judging criteria/ format for the top wiservid/campaigns
2.aggressively/ intelligently pursue sponsorships for the competition
2.lay the groundwork/ delegate responsibilites for organizing the final television coverage
For the first year I would suggest we forget about the internships/ reality show -- focus on securing sponsorships/ awards and a 2-3 hour slot on mainstream television channel for June 16th 2009 for the Final judging / Celebration. It really is a very simple proposal: meet everyone's needs with one solution. I think we would all be surprised at how seamlessly this will come together if we work together, utilize the power of the network and believe in the idea. All businesses and individuals who are involved with the creation/ development of the competition will profoundly benefit: they will enjoy wild publicity for themselves, their social causes and socially-responsible businesses. Additionally / simultaneously they/WE will be peforming the priceless duty of lighting the next generation of consumer's minds on fire with the knowledge of the local and international issues that are at the heart of our current global crisis... while providing them with the tools and platform to organize into a united voice of change which will reweave the literal fabric of the world.

I envision an opening segment of the add being breathtaking view of california coastline, than northern CA mountains, than fading to snow-covered mountains BC or AK than fading to white background...
than the WISER logo emerges letter by letter on the open white background with birdsong playing pleasantly and an attractive female ballet dancer dances out holding a conspicous can of spraypaint than strikes a pose by the person - sized R and turns and gives the camera 'the eye'... than bass music begins to pump softly in the background and she arches her eyebrow while still maintaining eye-contact with the camera... than whirls around and sprays the letters VID than exits with a modern hip-hop dance routine as the bass gains momentum...
(another option would be she drops the can on her way out and in slow motion the can of spraypaint bounces once, twice while she dances than settles by the base of the letter I as she leaves the screen and bursts into a green vine that wraps itself up around letter 'I' than opens in a flower where the dot is and there is a big gold dollar sign $ that shifts in the light GOLD than GREEN than GOLD ... ) (you could even go farther and have Tupac's torso/ upper-body and head come out of the flower with a huge $ sign chain covering his torso and glinting back and forth GREEN than GOLD than GREEN (could have the wiser owl sweep in and land on pacs shoulder...)... cut into intro to promo video ...i could design the 5 minute video presentation )
I realize it might be different/ strange reading that: but the priority should be to be successful; capture the interest of the mainstream audience on their own terms and engage them to become active/ willing participants.

I want to make it clear that this project is not a wiserearth project: but a project sourced from WiserEarth.org and enabled by NCI's assistance. It will be taking a figurative step back and strategically positioning the figurative chess player which is the NCI team who are working to strategically position the WiserEarth.org chess piece on the board: wiser*** will position the NCI team in a way where it is almost impossible for them not to enable Wiserearth.org to become extremely successful / highly utilized in the short term.
I suggest we create a 4- 5 minute fast paced video advertisement for the competition which we will use as a tool for convincing targeted influencers to endorse the competition and participate as judges/ network with us to recruit sponsors and organize this thing into reality.

(the blessed unrest film will be great but it will not drive people to this website and engage the mainstream: it will describe the past... wiser*** on the other hand will ignite the future, engage the mainstream, act as a unifying cultural catalyst)
an active user base vs. profiles of people who never return.
the project will prove whether this website and the Natural Capital Institute self-defeats: actually works as a roadblock to the "movement" or whether it works toward its intended means...; honor the vision and enables normal, regular, everyday people and their communities to work together on something meaningful ... or whether this site is a line in the sand drawn by hypocritical elitist conformist bureaucrats who need to define 'the movement' in a way that puts it chances of success in a figurative box in the corner to be ignored by the mainstream forever...

Wiser*** will accelerate the growth/ success/ utilization of WiserEarth.org, and have profound explosive impact on the planet. It will be giving the "movement" outlined in "Blessed Unrest" a figurative adrenaline injection.
(I read somewhere that there are 4146 college campuses in the U.S. ... If that is true that is 4000 businesses a year that change their operating practices as a product of being targeted by a campaign, 4000 communities that have incentive to rally together for a cause, engage and THINK in an innovative way about solutions... Wiser*** will unlock the problem solving skills and creativity of young people and enable them to change the world.... the issue of climate change and the need for Green Jobs (and the recent oakland green job corp) will get unrivaled publicity... as will wiserearth.org: the source for the solution...
This might not be specifically what NCI / Paul envisioned when WiserEarth was created: but it is completely consistent with your stated values and mission.
I believe the strategic vision of NCI should adapt and embrace the WiserVID idea as a great asset to both NCI and the world.

Another thing: look at these "campaigns": I was just looking through this "wecansolveit" and 1sky websites... young people are not being encouraged to THINK, get creative, solve etc. -- it is all about endorse this idea put forward by this narcissistic politician/ environmentalist or that one... people are not encouraged to solve.
IN SUMMARY
it is a poor presentation of the idea : but i think it would work perfectly:
1NCI helps me make 5 minute promotional utube clip for Wiser VID competition --
2we use the 5 minute clip as a way to recruit the support of targeted influencers...
3with the aid of targeted influencers we recruit sponsors/ arrange for television coverage, logistics of finals etc. -- the idea is to have electronic viewings of the top campaigns interspersed with live performances; kind of like the 2007 live earth celebration; we could probably use gore to negotiate coverage with msnbc or mtv.
4september 27 green jobs day we have gore(wecansolveit)/ van jones(greenforall)/mckibben(350)/ 1sky etc. announce the competition, the clip is sent to all environmental / sustainability national undergraduate schools in the U.S., the clip contains a link to a website where rules/ judging criteria are explained comprehensively
5. state/ regional semi finals in the spring sometime, finals on tupac shakurs birthday june 16th -- thus crystalizing the connection with the 'hip hop community': no better avenue to reach the mainstream youth audience than them. and on the international level, no better artist than 2pac: Tupac in Sarajevo: The Rise of Rebellion Rap in Eastern Europe , search for info hip-hop/ rap social change etc.

--- major flaw of current approach of 1sky, solve it, green for all etc. is that they recruit numbers of people to endorse their ideas, rather than come up with their own ideas, to THINK -- wiservid will correct this, involve everyone in the process of solving the problems in a fun exciting way: not just lobby their politicians for changes, but simultaneously work together to create grassroots change. thus we will begin to 'capitilize' on our most priceless resource as a global society -- the 'creative capital' of the masses, all the undiscovered artistic talent/ innovative thought will have a direct avenue to real world change, and will have incentive/ motivation through a reward system to outpeform the competition...

*completely scalable/ unlimited potential: 4000 undergraduate schools in u.s. = if we had 1000 the first year compete that is 1000 businesses that change their practices, every year the program will gain momentum. in 2010 we could have 3000 us schools, 1000 canadian schools and 2000 european college/ universities: each year it will grow, target new businesses etc. all businesses that are targeted will earn a GLOBAL WISERBUSINESS certification and will be mapped into the wiserearth database... thus the effects of the competition will be evident visually, wiserearth will gain active userbase via students who will take over editor roles etc., make invaluable connections
*global issues like HIV/ poverty etc. will also gain exposure through competition: different global issue each year adds interesting dimension to competition
the WISER*** competition will align these groups:

i plan on being at the judging table on the 16th 2009 when bill gates coughs -- i will intuitively reach over and get him a bottle of WISER*** vitamin water...
