San Francisco challenges new graywater code, wants permit

Edit this Page
Subject - ACTION! Restrictive Greywater Code Ordinance Proposed this am in SF

Steve Panelli, Senior plumbing inspector for the city of SF, proposed an ordinance this am that requires permits for single source greywater systems in SF. (I am waiting for a copy of the ordinance from Kirk Means at City Planning [kirk.means@sfgov.org].  Will send it to everyone when I get it)

They will be voting on it at the Building Inspector Commission meeting next Wed at City Hall:
Time:  Wed, Oct 21, pm @ 2pm
Where: SF City Hall, Room 416

You can write the Building Inspection Committee before then (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED):
President Mel Murphy
Building Inspector Commission
C/o Ann Aherne: ann.aherne@sfgov.org (she'll make sure every commissioner gets a copy)

You can write the same to Steve Panelli, Chief Plumbing Inspector, at:
steve.panelli@sfgov.org

More information:
Anne Alherne, Building Inspector Commission: 415-558-6126

Having SF require a permit for single systems in single residences is a terrible step backwards and could influence what other cities do with the new code.  Please get involved, especially if you live in SF, but hearing from outside the city could also be assist.

Sometimes it's hard to understand how we could be in such a worsening water crisis in CA, with new dams, reservoirs and peripheral canals being heartily proposed with no clear financial plan in place, but with so little attention on how we USE water, and how unwisely.  Graywater is an obvious nonthreatening solution.

Best,
Elizabeth Dougherty
