This article is locked

Access Privileges

Access is currently restricted to the following group(s):

This page summarizes the results of the first survey sent out to all 106 group members on Sept 23, 2008. To date (Oct 13, 2008), we have 26 group members participating in the survey.

The survey was intended to

  • find out group members' opinion on being an Editor (note: not all group members have Editor privileges).
  • to solicit ideas to co-define what the general role and responsibilities of Editors in WE should be.

You can still participate in the survey by checking your WE message inbox and clicking the link to the survey. Or alternatively you can participate in a discussion we have on roles and responsibilities of Editors in WiserEarth.

  • I was more of an active contributor last year, adding non-profits and other orgs to WiserEarth. Looking to get more involved again.
  • Introducing people and organizations to each other to cross-pollinate.
  • Culture of Peace Initiative
  • discussion about global commons and synergy

On being a WiserEarth Editor

Q10 - What do you think the overall role and responsibility of an editor on WiserEarth should be?

  • I'm not sure but want to know more.
  • Keep the knowledge base growing and maintain accuracy. Foster discussion.
  • I think an Editor on WiserEarth should keep members updated on opportunities that are available to their specified region.
  • to grow the functionality and cohesiveness of the project and special missions committed to.
  • Like any editor, solicit articles, keep order, set the tone, write editorials on anything and everything.
  • A. Support the Mission of Wiser Earth. B. Maintain quality according to established guidelines. C. Be an active contributor.
  • To monitor content and to provide feedback.
  • To be mindful to respect other peoples opinions as well as try to guide non constructive thought toward constructive ends.
  • Managing a specific aspect as a managing editor or assisting as a junior editor to meet certain goals
  • Content editing, information sharing and guidance as well as general direction of members in the use of the site
  • not sure, but I suppose setting up one or more groups and bringing people in might be a part of it
  • I think the role of an editor on WiserEarth should be to watch for accuracy and relevance, contribute more to content and depth of the site, actively look for ways to improve upon the site's design, encourage other users, and promote it wherever possible.
  • Promoting, recruiting participation, adding content, maintaining standards, and helping the public to better know how to use this powerful tool.
  • Writing editorials , responding to member FAQ,s , moderating group discussions , sending invitations about upcoming events , staying connected to members with a view to realising wiser earths goals and objectives.
  • In general editors should work to enhance particular focus areas and to bring in new members for those focus areas.
  • To provide greater understanding of issue that drive a "group".
  • They should ensure that information in their AoF is accurate and relevant. They should facilitate ease of use and steer the conversation toward constructive dialogue.
  • Ensure contributions from members is in line with Guidelines and Values, revise guidelines to reflect new developments, settle member conflicts, assist members in using the site
  • I think the most important "editor" role is to simply create new content within their particular realm of knowledge. Being a body of information coming from the bottom up, editors are crucial formers of that information.
  • fixing stuff, keeping track of developments on the website, making people aware of the resources.
  • Editors are volunteers that help add content and make connections. They can publish and delete. Editors can discuss things with other editors and influence the functions of the site. Editors help monitor the site by fully exploring their areas of interest and also new topics.
  • Use one's area of expertise to improve the WiserEarth directory and outreach to relevant organizations/individuals.
  • create content, facilitate discussion, have an specific area of focus or organize group.
  • Clarify content; review content for adherence to WiserEarth Guidelines; assist groups in presenting effective information; and, helping to grow WiserEarth.
  • site manager
  • Editing submiited materials and writing editirials periodically.
  • 1) keeping the portal page for her focus area up to date 2) contacting web sites related to the focus area with an eye to increasing membership and incoming links 3) participating in the editor's group
  • To make issues of concern to the editor the concern of many.
  • To monitor content, recommend new / changes to user policies, adjudicate member disputes, assist new members, edit AOFs
  • mentoring when approached maintain quality in what is edited/ or else ask for support
  • Editors should be responsible to the site's mission so that they add relevant content and do not exclude the wrong things. It should be easy for an editor to help out, but not put very much obligation or expect much from them because they are volunteers.
  • I'm not sure if its good to assign responsibilities yet. At the minimum, represent WiserEarth well, follow the community guidelines, make an attempt to create discussion or a greater collaborative project or WiserEarth group.
  • provide dynamism, accuracy, compliance, and add / facilitate content to the WE
  • Attempt to provide active support on at least one Group-site, more if experience and time permits.

Q16 - If you are interested in helping WiserEarth in other ways, please write your thoughts below.

  • I have already been promoting within my org.
  • Full on collaboration with CreativeCitizen
  • I am interested in developing a forum for people share videos and multimedia projects they are currently working on...
  • Don't know at the moment?
  • I have experience on conference staff. I am currently the bid chair for the PyCon2010 Python Programming Conference for the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • I hope to establish liaisons with other groups and "web 3.0" apps that would benefit many groups and expand WE's usefulness.
  • There is the coming Zeitgeist Movement that needs to be addressed out on wiserearth along with the Video Zeitgeist: Addendum
  • Not now.
  • I'm curious if there's been any sort of advertising for WiserEarth. I feel like getting the word out to all the other orgs that have been databased would greatly increase membership. Has this been attempted, and if so, can I help?
  • I do a great deal of promotion of WE when I am not logged in. My WE profile link is often on the bottom of my e-mails or written on business cards I exchange with like-minded people. I've spent a fair bit of time teaching others how to use the site and its amazing functionality. I'd like to continue in that teaching and outreach role. How much time I can spend on-line goes in spurts depending on the demands of my paid work. I am proud to be associated with WiserEarth and the Natural Capital Institute. I actively promoted WE through inclusion on my LinkedIn profile as well postings and e-mail to everyone I think would benefit. But most of my promotion of WE occurs in person among friends and contacts. I enjoy this role even more than editing the site itself.
  • Co Ordinating global campaigns and call to action.
  • I am still hoping that the Global Assembly software that I am developing will eventually be available as an open source addition to the Wiser Earth web site for purposes of prioritizing goals, organizational functions, message to the public, and coordinated program at both the focus area level and overall.
  • How people relate to WE groups that mover towards positive change needs helpful tools to accomplish that goal, it's really needed and WE could make that happen.
  • WiserEarth is really cool. I would like a job so that I won't feel bad about having so much fun on the internet.
  • Critiquing and editing FAQ's, Guidelines, Tutorials, etc...
