Implemented! - More buttons in the WYSIWYG editor +2

This article is locked

Suggestion has been implemented in Release 26:

All requested buttons have been added, with the exception of the insert horizontal ruler buton.  We opted to use the indent button rather than a blockquote.  We did also add in a "Paste from Word" button to remove formatting from text

Problem:

Want a few more buttons in the WYSIWYG editor to help with editing and formatting content.

Solution:

Referring to the homepage of TinyMCE (the WYSIWYG editor used in WiserEarth) and looking at all available buttons, I find the need for at least the following buttons:

  • The "Insert/Edit Anchor", which I need to add anchors and thus help navigating pages with lots of content. This can be done manually via the "HTML" button, but the anchor button will help a lot.
  • The "Indent" and "Outdent" button, or perhaps the "blockquote" button, which I need to use when quoting someone's comment. The "indent" will perhaps be better as the "blockquote" seems to result in a humongous double-quote symbol here in WiserEarth. I currently used a single cell table with 8px padding for this purpose, which is quite unpractical.
  •  The "Insert Horizontal Ruler" button, which I need to use to separate and format content. Currently have to go to the HTML code and add </hr> manually, which is quite troublesome.
  • If not too obstrusive, the "Text color" button would be nice. Haven't needed this in many occasion but should prove handy, for example when combined with the "Indent" button to quote someone's comment.

Further discussion:

Anyone feel the need for any other editing buttons?

Can we get a [Remove Formatting] button for the records?

Feature is now up on WiserEarth under Release 26.  (Each release refers to a new batch of updates across the site).  Thanks to Bowo for suggesting this idea!

Ticketed for our current release cycle - I will post back once we have this feature fully implemented.

Agreed - Font color is a big one - helps distinguish comments. I import colored text from word and use it. A work around but would be far better to have that native in the wiki editor. Plus that is a very standard word processing tool that everyone would understand.

Gets my vote - particulary the ability to set font color.  I'm sure I can push for this in an upcoming release.  :)

I agree with Bowo we could do with some more tools. Blockquote seems like a particularly important one. Horizontal bar would be nice to break up sections. Anchors would be nice to have - but really only important in long wikis of which there are probably few in WE. Balance of course is against complexity of UI.
