Optimize Presence in WiserEarth

Now that you have a well-edited and well-networked organization page, here are some tips to make the most out of your organization's presence in WiserEarth.

1. Write about your organization in your personal profile

As you participate here and there in WiserEarth and people visit your profile page, this piece of information helps visitors to know more about what you do. Of course, you will need to write about yourself first then about the work you do in your organization.

2. Use a comment signature with your organization name in it

As you leave comments throughout WiserEarth and people read them, this would increase visibility for your organization. A comment signature can be as simple as "John of Org X"

3. Create a WiserEarth group for staff, donors, members, volunteers and supporters

WiserEarth's groupware provide you with a free and easy to use communication and collaboration space. It can be used to complement your main website or as a private group to coordinate your team's work.

4. Get all of them actively involved in WiserEarth

By getting people from your organization in WiserEarth and encouraging them to share their knowledge and network with others around the globe, you are contributing to connecting and increasing the effectiveness of our collective effort to bring about a just and sustainable world.

5. Map publicly available information from your organization onto WiserEarth's organization profile

By adding:

  • partner organizations,
  • staff, members, volunteers, supporters
  • resources (publication, video, podcasts, reports, recommended websites, PDFs, etc),
  • solutions that has been developed, tried and tested,
  • upcoming events,
  • job openings,
  • internship or volunteer opportunities, and
  • articles

...from your organization into WiserEarth record types and then network them into your organization page, you can showcase the breadth and depth of the work that you do.

The time commitment to create and maintain an organization profile is not great and you will receive the following benefits:

  • Brings visibility to donors, partners, volunteers, and job seekers - over 500,000 people visit WiserEarth each year, making 3.3 million pageviews looking for organizations like yours.
  • Improves search engine results for your own website - as the authoritative directory for organizations with a great deal of traffic and link-backs, listing and networking all of that record types can improve the likelihood of your website showing up in a Google or Yahoo search.
  • Allows to showcase your network - you can make visible your connections to other organizations and people, increasing the chances that someone will see your listing.

6. Put a link in your website to the organization page and any group you create on WiserEarth

It says something to visitors of your website that you're part of this community of people and organizations who are transforming the world. Here are some of the ways you can link WiserEarth in your website.

This will also complement your other online outreach strategies by providing a community space for supporters of your organization (either generally in WiserEarth, or through a group you set up here for them).
