Powerscroll for Group Modules
Problem: As people add content to Group modules they gets very full and it can be hard to find stuff.
Solution: iPhone style Powerscroll on the right hand side of all relevant Group Modules. A-Z listing where you can visibly scroll through the groups content in rapid fashion.
Current Options: One work around is to use the Search module - so whatever you have on the group can be quickly 'found'. Another, as you mentioned, is to have a separate related group where you house specific information. You can also use the sticky function to make sure key content stays at the top of the module. Finally you can create a Bulletin section with a list of links and/or a wikipage with a list of links - so that you can have a sort of written directory of information

Original Suggestion Post
As people join groups and add Resources and Organizations, the Group page gets quite full. Would it be possible to add Tabs (as with Home, About, etc.) for Resources, Organizations, and Members? That way the group Home page is focused more on content than reference.
What do you think?
An alternative might be to set up groups just for group-related resources, etc. (e.g., ISE Member Resources Group) that is linked to the parent group - but that seems not so in-line with the goal of groups but more of a work-around....
Best,
Natasha Duarte (Nduarte)

Like the idea of a powerscroll on the side of modules as a solution for content overload for modules.

@Natasha: We'll put the powerscroll into the mix as an idea. Glad your original fix is working for you. I'll edit you original suggestion to reflect where we have ended up. Best, Angus

Thanks for the suggestions - I ended up creating a public "add-on" Group called ISE Member Resources. I get the issue with tabs - that was just an "easy grab" I think.
One of the goals for the ISE Member Group is to share, well, Resources with one another. There are so many cool resources out there and they can be missed even when "right under your nose". The group is publicly viewable but member-only to add, so that the postings there remain specifically of interest to the ISE membership.
Our member group is currently private, as the ISE members say they want a place to discuss their ideas with the ISE community alone, but the resources have been set up as public for WE consumption. This made having the add on group make more sense I guess. I tossed the Organizations into the new group, as they can be seen as "resources" for our membership in a way as well.
An alpha-powerscroll would be neat as with time, all resources, organizations, etc. will likely get overrun.
Hope this all makes sense. I invite any more feedback you might have or suggesations for improvment.
Best,

@ Natasha: I agree this is an issue. Not sure what the solution is. One work around is to use the Search module - so whatever you have on the group can be quickly 'found'. Another, as you mentioned, is to have a separate related group where you house specific information. You can also use the sticky function to make sure key content stays at the top of the module. Finally you can create a Bulletin section with a list of links and/or a wikipage with a list of links - so that you can have a sort of written directory of information. None are entirely satisfying. Any ideas?
We are generally trying to get away from tabs - funny enough in the next iteration of groups (January or so) we will be getting rid of the Home, About, Photo tabs etc in favor of putting that functionality in the Administrator drop down menu.
But I could imagine some sort of alphabetical powerscroll (like the Iphone address book) on the side of a module to get you to the content you want. Would that work? What specifically are you looking to achieve? |

Yes, groups being 'quite full' certainly can be a problem, but not sure whether adding tabs would be a good solution though this certainly is the approach used in other social networking groups (Ning for example..). I wonder what others think of this?
In the mean time, here's some other possible workarounds:
