Personal Dashboard FAQ

This article is locked

If you have any questions, or have any feedback and thoughts on how to improve the Personal Dashboard, feel free to drop us a line at the Personal Dashboard discussion topic in our Suggestions Group.

1. Inbox

The first module you will see on your new personal dashboard is your Inbox.  Here you can see any messages sent to you by other users, as well as any invitations inviting you to join a group on WiserEarth.

Read and send messages - Click on the subject of each message to read its contents, to reply or to delete the message.  If you have more messages than are currently displayed, just click on the number next to the title 'Inbox'  to view all your messages. To send a message to another person on WiserEarth, go to their profile page and click 'Send a message'.

2. Friend Feed

The module under your inbox is your Friend Feed.  This module highlights the activity of the people in your network. For example, when they create new content, join a group, or connect to other people on the site.  The Friend Feed offers a quick and easy way to stay informed of what people are doing across the site.

Inviting others to join your network - Click on the link 'Invite your friends'. Add their email addresses and send them a message. You'll soon see your network grow. To invite people already on WiserEarth to your network, go to their profile and click on 'Invite to your network'.

3. People you may Know

On the right of your dashboard, you'll see the People you may know module.  The information shown is based on the number of mutual connections you have between a person, which is determined by how many people you know in common, as well as any information that you are both equally connected to, this section will bring up any people that isn't currently in your network.

Add people you see on the list to your network - To do this, just click on the "+" icon (plus button).  To remove people from showing up on your list again, just click on the "-" icon (minus button).

4. What's New!

The What's New module appears next.  This module will be continuously updated with new content taken from across the site.

Select what type of information you wish to see here by selecting from the following options: Most recent articles, by the Top Rated content, and the Most viewed pages. We'll soon allow you to change what's show so that only the types of information you're interested in will be shown.

We hope this FAQ helps!  If you have any questions, or have any feedback and thoughts on how to improve the Personal Dashboard, feel free to drop us a line at the Personal Dashboard discussion topic in our Suggestions Group.

@Hugh: Thanks for your kind words. You'll find a fair number of TTers on WiserEarth. There are a few groups as well. Good luck with your work. I used to live in London and can imagine that you have a real challenge! Best, Angus

Hello, I'd just like to make a huge commendation to all at Wiserearth and to Paul H for his Blessed Unrest.

His ceaseless research into all the diverse things we humans are getting up to to put our home planet to rights is such a rich investment into all the resources we caring humans are making. A huge thank you to you all!

My personal endeavour is the creation of a (very local) Transition Town initiative in the UK, but a tricky one because 1. it's urban and 2. this district of West London (Kensington and Chelsea) is one of extremes of affluence and underprivilige.

The affluent seem not to want to know about impending risks from exorbitant energy, oil and food costs or from climate change; the underpriviliged hardly have the time or reason to see these issues as their priority.

The Transition movement though has spread in just 3 years from one UK market town to around 700 communities in over a dozen countries. Transition's credo is that when people come together to learn about environmental and energy issues and also to socialise, to play and to create joint activities, they are helped in imagining and laying foundations for a future that addresses the upcoming challenges in a positive and imaginative way. More at www.transitiontowns.org

I look forward to hearing from others who see spirited community as a powerful agent for positive change. Tell me about your community-building project or your aspirations.

Hey Natalie - try clicking on your profile tab instead of the Dashboard tab.  Then scroll down to your "Network" section - you should see any connections you might have to Organizations, People, Events, Resources, etc.  Let me know if that answers your question.
Sm_avatar
Im having the same problem - seeing my connections? TS
