You might rightly say, brother
by my country of birth
it is modern Hebrew
and by my mother’s country
it is Arabic, Qur’ánic
and by her ancestors
Babylonian Hebrew
the Aramaic of the Bible
Yet an ancient Name appeared
who nursed me from her Light
and she said
my mother is the most ancient
she speaks the existence of all...
Light kills.
Light killed me with every suckle
and will reap many more deaths
even if my lips be weaned off
all mothers but Hers...
Now, she bursts
into thunderous laughter...
had you not been a rebel
- She giggles -
would your godless mother
need shout so often
Indeed they belong to God and
most certainly to Him they return...?*
Salutations to all mothers
and to my midwife - Love
who sometimes disguises herself
amongst other things
as archaeo-modern English...
And after that, brother
would you mind much
which one you learnt
which one you forget
which is right
which incorrect
if Mother spoke you
