Launching and Promoting the Global Assembly Dialog

Edit this Page
Overview
GA is an experiment in participatory democracy, designed to engage in international discussion and analysis of the major issues facing citizens of the world and to reach concensus on shared solutions. A successful campaign to promote engagement in this dialog is integral to attaining this goal.
Currently, there are 50 active participants and 1000 registrants.

Draft; in process
The Global Assembly online presence is currently a very simple and small conventional website. Interactivity is available during the writing and reviewing sessions.

The next step in GA software development is the adding of a Forum capability.  There will be a single forum with filters.  At present all root messages in the forum will be dialog messages.  Non-dialog roots and participant tags will be added in a second stage.  By opening up the filters, the forum user can read and reply to messages from all dialogs.  At present we have only the Global Assembly Dialog, but coming soon will be a companion "Encounter Point" dialog focusing on the Middle East.  The strategy will be to build the GA dialog by adding companion dialogs and bringing participants into the GA dialog via the forum.

 Promotional tools include:
  • Working through the WiserEarth community to promote the GA Dialog and its prioritizing software.
  • Sharing suggestions about international educational, nonprofit and media connections.
  • Assisting in promoting the dialog through fluency in Web 2.0 technologies.  Discussion.

Plan of Action

Suggestions

1. Sugggestion: GA becomes active in relevant groups involved in governance, structure, development of WE.  A GA member should serve as liaison between the WE community and GA.
Action: GA met with WE in February to discuss utlizing GA's prioritizing software as a method of organizing areas of focus at both the organizatonal and group level. Deborah Phelan will serve as liaison between GA and WE communities.

2. Suggestion: Promoting GA through the WE community by participation in organizational and group processes.
Action: Deborah Phelan is actively participating in Editors, Suggestions, Coming Together groups. Roger Eaton and Deborah Phelan have joined the Governance Group.

3. Suggestion: WiserEarth wiki can be utlized as an active online environment in which active members of the GA Dialog can participate in sharing suggestions regarding the promotion of the dialog to a broad international audience.
ACTION: TO BE DETERMINED

4. Suggestion: Identification of most relevant promising target audiences (i.e., online communities, media, educational organizations, etc.) internationally and regionally based on these criteria
each region
Action: To be determined initially through work within WE community.

5. Suggestion: The promotion of articles and discussions underway at WiserEarth to the broader web community and the publication of the community in virtual communities is of advantage to GA. GA should obtain clear ideas of WiserEarth's marketing plans prior as an adjunct to its own developed vision.
Action: Preliminary meeting held. Deborah Phelan to follow up on discussion.

  • Suggestion: utliize the WE Events calendar to promote rounds of GA Dialog and to announce winners. (who will do this regularly?)
  • Suggestion: move the winners of each round to discussion forums in WE and utlize the wiki environment as a place where participants can provide easilly accessible research which can be expanded upon/commented upon by other participants (to be discussed)
  • Suggestion; Participate in groups discussing enhancements to WE tools Action: Deborah
  • Suggestion: Promote WE promotion of the GA Dialog through its Entry Page Focus daily highlights. TBD
  • Suggestion: Seek intern volunteer. TBD.

Obsolete?
Global Assembly Site

Web 2.0, Viral and Conventional Marketing

Should the GlobalAssembly Dialog be restructured to function more as a social networking site which can be effectively promoted through the use of Web 2.0 marketing tools (blogs, tags, users, registration at social networking info sharing/promotional services such as technorati, delicious, reddit, digg.?)

6. Development of GA Database to keep list contacts and keep record of outcomes and status
