The consequences of Global Climate change

Access Privileges

Access is currently restricted to the following group(s):

Sea level rise.

As planetary temperature increases, land ice in glaciers and ice sheets melt. The melting ice pours freshwater into the oceans which causes a sea level rise. Eventually, low lying land may flood and coastal erosion increases.

Wikipedia- Click here for more information on Sea level rise

Changed wind patterns.

Increasing warmth and different areas being heated may result in stronger winds. As wind speed increases, this leads to more coastal erosions and stronger, more frequent storms.

Changed ocean currents.

Increased land ice melting may cause warm saltwater ocean currents to sink and therefore stop warming the atmosphere. This is process is found in the Gulf Stream. (The link takes you to the BBC article on the Gulf stream)

Changed species survival

The process of evolution is slow, and some species may not be able to adapt to the new climate. This sadly results in more deaths and then extinction. There are currently many organisations with the aim of protecting these endangered species, however some stories don't have a happy ending. Look out for more information in this group about endangered species.

There are more indirect consequences of Global Climate Change that have not been discussed, I will update when I can.
