Web statistics on all pages +1

Edit this Page

Problem:

No way to see how much content is being viewed / consumed - which is a powerful way to encourage greater contribution to WE.

Suggestion:

  • Webstats on each page - through Google analytics - top line should be simple # of hits but would be great to be able to click through to get who from where, which domains etc
  • Show number of downloads of files - love to see how much content is being actively dowloaded.
  • Most viewed roll call on homepage anda tile to add to groups.

More ideas?

Downloads per file would be good tool.

Something simple like - "Page Views: 1,234"

Then we can use this data to drive "Most viewed" roll call on WE homepage and perhaps some admin selected tile for Groups (a la highest ranked and most recent content)

This is something I'll have to check in with Google Analytics about.  We haven't offered web counters in the past because all the search crawlers skew the hits.  If we can pull this metric through Google Analytics, we definitely will.

Not just for groups - should be for all content and even people. This kind of data can help raise awareness of important content on the site (i.e. based on it we should be able to search / browse 'most visited') but also it engages users - my content / group has been visited again... and incentivizes them to add / manage content - because people are watching!
