Hello all,

Just posted a draft outline. Any ideas / thoughts? We may want to trim down the number of pages. Page 1 and Page 8?

Thanks,

Bowo

The underlying 'benefit' of WE might be discovery.  When I go to conventions like Bionners I learn things and discover things - new ideas, new ways to do old ways, meet old friends and make new friends.  WiserEarth seems to be developing that same kind of matrix.  Over the past few years, seeing now WE has been developing - I don't think it has been or will be a static network, because of the changing needs, issues and continuing solutions that people bring to the WE Convening.

It’s not about 'getting started', but continuing on with what one is interested in and expanding that interest through the convening process that WE offers.

Deborah's comment on the Getting Started page:

"The ideal world would be we would have a Wiser Angel on board 24x7 to IM with newcomers and introduce them to what might be of interest, sorta create their profile along with them ..... NOW that would be something completely different (or not ....) kinda like what they do in Second Life when you join.....  maybe we need to create a tutorial session in Second Life. Are we there yet?"

24/7 IM support would be nice. We can set this up and include in the Getting Started page and the Help Desk. Two questions:

  • Anyone wants to volunteer? (I definitely can, but won't possibly cover 24/7)
  • What IM tool to use? Setting up accounts on various IM networks: yahoo, gtalk, msn, skype, etc. doesn't look feasible... We can try TinyChat, which looks quite ideal (no downloads/install, just use browser) --> http://tinychat.com/ or BabelWith.me that has auto-sentence-translation feature
Adding this to wiki section above.

Thanks Frank,

From your view it appears that the "Getting Started" guide should provide new members with:

  • Various (and brief) use cases of WiserEarth depending on their particular need (or, 'metaphors' in your words)
  • Information on how WE can help expand a new member's knowledge of an issue
  • Examples of how WE could help translate one's global perspective to local actions

All valid points imho. Adding this to the wiki above of possible things to include in the guide.

A suggested metaphor for WiserEarth

Open 24/7- WiserEarth a worldwide conference for the Earth, where you can be a participant, a presenter, an organizer, where you or your organization can expand your relationships with the world.

Regarding the “10 Ways to Get the Most Out of WiserEarth”

What I’m trying to do is figure out how to use WE to make the changes I see regarding water issue that face people all over the world.

How has WE helped me in that quest?

Understanding how to relate world issues to local issues, develop messaging that relates to changing the demands of people with the needs of nature is what I need to learn

So how does that relate to “10 Ways to Get the Most Out of WiserEarth”?

Am I looking for answers? No I’m looking for ‘patterning’ – trying to understand how the relationships of ‘group’ issues might relate to the demands of people and the needs of nature.

The conversations I’m have with WE people in a few of the groups I’ve created and joined have been helpful, population, waste, nation states, all play a part in helping me to develop a unifying understanding.

It’s an on going process…

I don’t know if this helps at all, but it’s where I am today with my relationship to WE.
