Learn about actions being taken by individuals, our congregation, and the Iowa City community to address our shared global environmental crises. This knowledge will help you better understand UU’s seventh principle and live more in harmony with our natural world.

Oct 15: Learn to shape energy policy in Iowa

Tim Fink is the executive director of Iowa Interfaith Power and Light. He will describe the political issues surrounding coal plants and energy use in Iowa and tell you how to help shape Iowa’s energy policies.

Oct 22: Determine your carbon foot print

Understand your impact on our environment and share ideas for how individuals can lower their impact by using less energy and resources. Small changes add up. Never underestimate the difference 10% can make.

Oct 29: See cool places

Learn what UUSIC has done to be more energy efficient in the last year. Jennifer Jordan, the city Recycling Coordinator, will describe actions Iowa City is taking to make our community a “cool city.”

Learn about the big impact small farming has on our environment. The Local Food Alliance will tell you how to obtain more of your food locally and describe the personal quandaries encountered in the quest to become a “localvore”.

Nov 12: Celebrate and commit

Tim Knab is a member of the University of Iowa Environmental Coalition. He will describe the exciting environmental actions taking place at the university and share his vision of a more regenerative and personally fulfilling society.
