Implemented - "My Profile" dropdown links +2
What's been implemented: While not every part of this suggestion has been implemented, we have added in an Inbox drop-down menu allowing users to access their messages, invitations, and watchlist alerts. We've also put in a personal dashboard that combines quite a few features onto one page. It would probably be information overload to put every link below into a drop-down menu - let's see how our users take to the new set of links available to them, and if there is continued feedback to add links like Photos and Visualize your network into a drop-down menu.
-------------------------
Problem:
Accessing different tabs and links on my profile page is a multiple-clicks effort at the moment. Would be great if they can be done in less number of clicks, and at the same time accessible from everywhere in WE.
Suggestion:
The solution is similar to how the current "My Groups" dropdown a list of groups upon hovering your mouse over it. For "My Profile" the following links should be dropdown-ed:
- Invite Other Users to Your Network
- Add Entities to Your Network
- List Your Network
- Visualize Your Network
- Photos
- Inbox
- Sent Messages
- User Settings
- Show My Watchlist
- View Your Watchlist Activity Report (Simple)
- View Your Watchlist Activity Report (Detailed)
- View Your Personal Activity Report
- View Comments You've Made
The appearance will be similar to the mock-up for the "Navigation Links dropdown" suggestion at http://www.wiserearth.org/article/f3a57812a63b6a9e60c40a685857b745

Hey, all:
Okay, I like one idea and not the other, which I will explain. Having separate dropdowns for different sets of purposes--links for the site, for the individual, etc.--will result in shorter dropdowns for each, and a logical separation of tasks. I had suggested earlier a set of maybe 4 links ("My Profile", "My WeMail", etc.) in the "Member" block, but the less clutter with the present suggestion is an advantage. On the other hand, one problem I have all the time is the "My Groups" dropdown, which is obviously automatically customized. As a result, it can take as much as a minute for it to dropdown, so I call it a "DRIPdown"! This gets into issues of speed and consequently access. I know, I keep harping on this, but ease of access improves participation. If you have blinding fast speed you don't see this issue, but many others do. Here is an analogy: of two people, one has to go 100 feet (~30.5 meters) to school, and the other 100 miles (~161 km). Which is easier? And more important--who will learn more? (Let's see, that is a ratio of ~5,280:1--is that the equivalent difference between the world's slowest phone line and a really high-speed line?) If made customizable, this would be fine, as long as it is integrated into the personal profile so that it overcomes the speed issue; but otherwise, and with shorter, logically divided dropdowns, customizable should not be necessary. Perhaps there can be a separate dropdown for the inbox, as mentioned here by Sustainable David: http://www.wiserearth.org/article/855943bae486436f0a212932f39a0908/group/suggestions

Great idea. I think I agree with this list on the condition that it is customizable. Perhaps the initial dropdown list can be shorter. Users could then add more to their list if they wish.

@ David/Michael: You will notice that from mid-January (2009) or so a new set of top drop down menus will appear on WE - partially thanks to your suggestions. One will be 'InBox' that drops down to show links to WEmail, Invitations (to groups of friends), and Watchlist Alerts. The second menu drop down will be Groups - basically the same as now but easier to see / click with your mouse. As for the profile and all those specific activities - we are thinking about it. Here are some thoughts:
Bookmark or Network drop down - that allows you to add a search or a record to your network for later referencing.
Friends drop down - that shows a list of friends, and allows you to invite more to WE.
With those changes made we will have covered about 80% of your list I suspect. Any thoughts or suggestions?
