Sept Heifer Party Planning

Edit this Page
This Event has been postponed.  We love the idea but need more time and people to help pull it off.

What: a party about hope!

Who: all are invited & admission is free

Audience: Heifer volunteers, donors (those current & lapsed) & general public

Goals:

  • Introduce our group to the community
  • broaden  our audience
  • have fun
  • energize ourselves and new volunteers
  • bring people to follow on Heifer U

General Stuff:

To do:

  • come up with a name (see below)

Ideas:

To do:

Completed tasks:

  • Talk with Joan at East Shore to come up with
    • time (we have the building booked from 12:30 until 9:30  (after this we are charged overtime)
    • number of people - the sanctuary seats 300 people in normal church setting.
    • cost - around $2000 but this may be negotiable
If this is not a fund raiser (meaning we don't expect to bring in more than $1000), then East Shore will co-sponsor the event.  Erik can explain the ramifications of this.

Ideas:

  • invite East Shore youth to help volunteer

Notes from Isaak:

Eliza spoke with Isaak about the Sept event & he thinks it has great potential, but we really need a "hook" in order to get people there & to give them a purpose for attending.  Here are some thoughts from him that could be beneficial for us in planning the vision of this event:

  • Don't shy away from "Heiferizing" the event (running videos or slides without audio). perhaps having video message snippets from people (program staff, partners?)
  • Really think about & pinpoint why people would come & what they will walk away with--what's the meat?
  • Have guests pay to enter the raffle--people want to pay for something & will feel like the raffle is more worthwhile or quality if it's a dollar or two to enter, rather than free
  • He suggested multiple music performances.  Erik, is the hip hop group still a possibility?

"Hook" ideas from Isaak:

  • In the face of all that's wrong in the world, come witness something right.  Celebrate hope with a group in Seattle affecting change in the world while building up their own communities.
  • Come celebrate everything that's right with the world.
  • Celebrate a global movement.
  • What can you do to make this planet a better place?

Final thoughts from Eliza:

--we've already discussed highlighting the work/activities of our volunteer group.  What if we centered around the idea of focusing on the hopeful things people can do to affect positive change.  We could include quotes up on the walls from our volunteers (why they volunteer, how it makes them feel) & quotes from our project partners.  Let's brainstorm a meaty hook!!  :)

Is this a hook? "Celebration of Hope - come celebrate the possibilities of bring positive change to our community and world.  With the election right around the corner, and all of the horrific news that comes out everyday, our community is so hungry for positive news!  This is the energy I hope we can tap into.

Lisa, thanks for trying to get your friend's volunteer group. Is there potential to use them in the future?
