BACKGROUND

Founded in December 2008, we are centered in Fayetteville, Arkansas but anyone in the region is welcome to join. Our purpose is to form a community for sharing knowledge and building skills. When possible, we look at the larger system through a permaculture design lens. But our immediate focus is practical: doing small projects that demonstrate how to live well with less. Our model is learning by doing.

MEMBERSHIP

To join the Guild, you must first join WiserEarth and put up a full profile with a personal photo, city of residence, and text in the "about" section that describes (at the minimum) how you got into permaculture, the kind of permaculture-related projects you've done, and what you are interested in doing/learning. (Please do not use a professional bio.)

Beyond the above, there are no explicit responsibilities associated with membership. However, the success of the Guild does depend on individual contributions.

HOW TO LEAD/PARTICIPATE IN EVENTS

If you want to participate in an event, just contact the event leader. Any member can host an event. Here are the guidelines:

1. The event must be directly related to our purpose. For example, you may want to invite people to build a compost pile, survey and construct swales, plant an orchard, build a chicken coop, install a rainwater harvesting system, preserve food or seeds, construct a humanure toilet, do a basic plumbing or welding project, learn natural building techniques, gather wild edibles, etc.

2. In listing an event, you are taking responsibility for coordinating it and making sure that people will learn useful knowledge.

(You can get free labor in exchange.)

3. If you would like help planning or listing an event, please contact an administrator.

HOW TO STAY IN THE LOOP

Members receive a weekly or biweekly bulletin. To stay fully on top of things, make sure to: 1) add the OPG website to your Bookmarks Toolbar and click it regularly to see what's happening; 2) post an email on your personal profile so members can connect with you directly;  3) make sure Guild communications are forwarded to your personal email address; and 4) subscribe to any discussion board topic of interest.

CONTACTING OTHER MEMBERS

Click on the member's photo to reach their profile. The profile shows two photos. Under the large photo on the right, you can click "send a message." If you have a message for the entire group, send to an administrator for inclusion in the weekly/biweekly bulletin.

DISCUSSION BOARD

The discussion board is reserved for topics related to permaculture. Please do not use it for announcements. Just for things that you think are worthy of or likely to encourage group discussion. Whenever possible, use an existing thread. (At the bottom of each one, you can click "post a reply.") If you are not sure a topic is appropriate for the discussion board, contact an administrator.

WIKIs/WIKIPAGES

The purpose of our Wiki section is to permanently archive useful, enduring, and important information. The information should be specific to permaculture and to the Ozarks. We are interested in continuous improvement in all of the wikis. If you have ideas for how to improve an existing wiki, please contact the principal contributor. If you would like to create a new wiki, please contact an administrator for guidelines.

You can also rate a wikipage or post a "comment." In posting a comment, keep in mind that wikis are permanent records. This is not the place for comments/information with an "expiration" date.

BULLETINS

If you would like to submit information or announcements for the weekly/biweekly bulletin, please send it to Rebecca/Scoop.
