Privacy settings
What is viewable by visitors of a group depends on the privacy settings
of that group, which is shown in the Group Details section as pictured
on the right.
There are 3 privacy options available for WiserEarth groups, as explained below:
1. Private - Only members of a group can view the information posted on the group home page. Non-Members are restricted to only seeing the limited 'about' information for the group, but will have the opportunity to join depending on the membership setting.
2. Semi-Private - Non-Members will be able to see all of the group's information. However, a non-member may not participate in the discussion or edit any content in the group.
3. Public - All information is accessible and editable by all WiserEarth members.
As a special note, in a private group, all comments and discussion topics are closed off to just members of the group. However, if a comment has been flagged for review due to inappropriateness, a WiserEarth administrator will have access to view just that comment and determine if it warrants removal. Otherwise, all comments are sealed from view for any non-member of the group.
Creating new content
To create new content, first you need to decide in which module you
would do that. Is it a discussion? A resource? An event? Or, a meeting
minutes? Once you've decided, you need to hover your mouse over the
pencil icon
in the module header and click "Create a new....". Below is
an example for creating a new wikipage (e.g. to host your meeting
notes).

Content created in your group will be added to the various directories in WiserEarth (organizations, solutions, jobs, events, etc.) and accessible by all WiserEarth members, unless you mark them as private upon creation. Discussions and files however, are specific to each group.
Adding existing content
You can also make good use of existing content in WiserEarth. There are more than 120.000 piece of information that can be added to your group, and it's growing as community members create new content each day. To add them to your group, there are three ways:
1. Using "Add an existing..." link on each module

Upon clicking this, you will then be presented with a search interface that allows you to search relevant content in WiserEarth database.
2. Using "Add to a group" link in 'Actions' box on each page
Whenever you stumbled upon content that is relevant to your group, either when browsing WiserEarth, or searching for it, you can use the 'Actions' box to add a content to your group(s).

3. Using the "Suggested content" module.
You wil need to click the + icon on item of interest.

Editing content
You need to open individual items in each module and then find the "Edit this page" or other edit links on that page. Here's an example of such links on a wikipage and on an organization listing.

Content editing history
Every piece of information in your group is automatically backed up by the system. Even if you remove a module, the content remains with it and will be available when you add that module back into your group.
As for individual content, every single edit is recorded in the page's history. You can revert back to an earlier version of a page or compare between any two version of the page by going to the "Show History" link at the top of the page. Go here to find out more.

Removing content
Group admins and members can remove content from a group. This is
done via the 'Manage...' link in the pop up menu over the pencil icon.
Here's an example for the wikipages module.

Clicking on "Manage Articles" will display all articles in the group. Removing one or more is done by clicking on the red-colored cross sign.

There are limitations however:
- Removing content from a group does note remove it from WiserEarth
- Discussion topics can not be removed from a group
- Comments can only be flagged for review
Only WiserEarth administrators and editors can remove content from WiserEarth, upon which, will remain visible to them for transparency reasons. In other words, as a check and balance mechanism to ensure that they're not abusing their privileges to 'remove' content. This is also to ensure that only content which violates WiserEarth's content standards, community guidelines and terms of use gets removed.
Persistently display certain items in each module
You can do this via the 'Manage...' link in the pop up menu over the pencil icon.

Clicking on "Manage Articles" will display all articles in the group. Making items 'sticky' is done by clicking on the gray thumbtack icon. It will turn to yellow, indicating that an item has been set as 'sticky' as shown below.

Once an item has been set to sticky, you will see a small fold on the top-right corner of each item in a module:

Normal items Sticky items
Networking content
Do you ever wish you can connect an event with the organization that organize it? Then connect a proceeding from that event to the event page? And later on all participants of that event? You can! This networking ability is one of WiserEarth's unique offering. Please go to our network tutorial page for more detail.

Sharing content between your groups
You may be administering, or a member of, more than one group that share similar areas of focus. So sometimes, when you create a content, you want to share it with other groups. This is easy to do. Just use the "Add to a group" link in 'Actions' box, and click on the groups you'd like to share that content with.

Sharing content beyond WiserEarth
Some of you may have already noticed the rotating icon right under
the "Actions" bar. If you click on it, it'll pop up a little window,
allowing you to "share" that page with a number of popular social
content sites, like Digg.com, Facebook, Del.ici.ous, and Technorati.
This is a great way for WiserEarth users to connect their work from
WiserEarth to their profiles on other sites, without ever having to
skip a beat.
You'll also notice there's another two tabs - "Posts" and "Send/Email". Post allows you to add the page to your blogs, such as Twitter, WordPress, and Blogger. Send/Email allows you to email the page out directly to your friends and family.
Overall, ShareThis is a pretty fast and easy process to spread awareness of a page.
