The transformation to sustainability and/as ways to happiness

What seems to be heard most often are the environmentalists predicting doom, and the deniers and delayers arguing that change would hurt us, personally and economically.Recently, we see an emergent understanding that a transformation to sustainability is actually not just about hard choices for "saving the planet," but about ways in which human happiness can ...learn more

Implemented: Linking within a group to modules

Edit this Page

Implemented:

Per Bowo's suggestion below, using anchors allows an admin to look directly to content in the group modules.

Hi

I would like to suggest that we have a way of linking to the modules within a group say from a bulletin board. Eg in the BMP group we have a list at the top of the group page on what modules are on the page, and it would be great to be able to hyperlink so that the member or user goes to that module, someway down the page. One of our members said "I want to click on a link but I cant!"

Hello all,

Good news!

Bret (sicjedi) has (unintentionally) just tipped off a solution to this problem in his suggestion article to reorganize WE's Help Desk. The anchors that can be used to link to specific section of the group already exist, and you can find it by viewing the source code of the BMP group. But since that's a bit tricky, I've done all the work for you.

Here they are (click 'em!):

Use 'em and enjoy!

@Kat:

You can auto-generate table of content by inserting on top of your wikipage. See example in this page. Still a very simple bullet points though, no numbering yet.

absolutely. good call! I expected those to be links when I arrived too.:)

1) its common in wikis to have a auto generated contents list (derived from header formatting in the body of the page)

2) non standard text formatting leads the user to expect functionality.

Dear C,

Yes to hyperlinks!

Ciao from Maryanne.

This would make it easier for those of our members who aren't experienced Internet users.

Something else needs to happen inside WE. Our resources are limited and we need to prioritize. In the mean time, let's wait and see how others think about this and you can implement the temporary solution I proposed the other day. If there's high demand, we can give higher priority for this

And we don't usually vote on our own suggestion :)

Cheers,

Bowo

Can I do this now, or does something else need to happne inside WE first? Also can I vote for my own suggestion?

Good idea Celeste!

WE groups being the "everything-on-a-page" kind of groupware, I think this is crucial. With this, group admin can designate a bulletin board as a top-navigation bar and that would help with navigating the group page.

Technically, this can be an auto-addition of anchors on group module's title bar. Anchor id can be whatever text is used for the title. Then, automatically list all those anchor id in the 'Anchors' drop-down list of "Insert/edit link" button in bulletin board's wysiwyg editor. Perfection would be to add a small indicator (icon / text / both) at the bottom right of each module that will allow people to go back to top of group page (group name position).

My 5 stars!
