Allow, when making a friend request, to send a small accomanying note

When cruising around I often see someone I'd like to connect to. I would feel more comfortable with some of them if it came with a short note staing some sort of premise for the contact, even if it is just "I saw you almost randomly and i think you are doing interesting things."
Part of what you might call 'online comminity theory' is the notion of strong and weak social ties. The WE friend function can be either of course. But one nice thing is how it can connect you with a lot of ties that start out more on the weak side but, through other interactions, becomes stronger. Sometimes sending a note along with a F/R helps the odds that it will be received in the right spirit.
One thing I also know is that every channel of communication you set up is also a channel for what we could call mischief. And the greater the population, the greater the incidents. But that's the price we pay for trying it at all. The thing to do on the other end is make sure that someone can discontinue it if that is what they want.
