June 2008 Potluck minutes

Edit this Page

The June potluck was attended by: Eliza, Lisa, Mary, Maribeth, Sandy, Taylor, Trevor, Jan, Ann, Evie, Lars,  Erik, and Carla

Our next potluck is July 27th at MoonShadow farm in Duvall (http://www.moonshadowfarm.org/).  RSVP for directions.

Our first brunch potluck turned out to be extremely popular with the participants.  Maribeth made some strong coffee and we all had high energy with wonderful breakfast foods.  Gary unfortunately got stuck in Little Rock and wasn't able to make it.  So we used the time to go into greater depth all of our summer activities.  Lisa shared some wonderful stories about folks she met at the Queen Anne Farmer's Market. Some inspiring connections were made.

Lisa, Eliza, and Erik all want to read "Blessed Unrest" by Paul Hawken together.  Let me know if you are interested in joining us to discuss the book.

The Menu for the Planet class will be on Tuesdays in Seattle starting on October 13th.

Other activities coming up:
  • Large Heifer Event on Sept 20th
  • Heifer Community Rummage Sale: set-up Friday 7/11, sale Friday 7/12--all helpers welcome!
  • Seattle Leadership Retreat: August 9-10th in Snoqualmie
  • Evergreen State Fair in Monroe August 27th-Sept 1st
Notes from Lisa:
At the June potluck I spoke in detail about the farmer's markets. As you all know, I've agreed to coordinate volunteers at the markets. I kicked off the 2nd annual season of the Queen Anne Farmer's Market (QAFM), on Thursday 6/19. It was a HUGE success & they would love to see us back. At the potluck I mentioned it would be in our/Heifer's benefit to represent at the QAFM as many times as we can, prior to our July 12th rummage sale. The rummage sale flyers went like hotcakes. We have tons of interested shoppers & donors. Can you look at your schedule & see if you're available to help out on these dates?
Thursday 6/26 (this Thursday)
Thursday 7/3
Thursday 7/10

With that being said, if you're already representing Heifer in your own neighborhood's farmer's market, please let me know. I would like to get you rummage sale flyers, as well as a flyer is being designed for our September 20th event. We would like to get that out there too!

Thanks~ Lisa Gallo
