This is an unusual conference in at least two ways: we propose to use active techniques rather than just talking about them, and we will involve a significant number of students in all aspects of the conference.

The conference is dedicated to active and experiential learning and in this spirit all delegates are strongly encouraged to use active techniques to involve the public in their presentations. New developments in engineering, increasing globalization of engineering industries, and broad diversity with respect to background and interests among engineering students call for changes in the settings, contexts, and methods of engineering education. The CDIO Initiative (www.cdio.org) welcomes your ideas and invites proposals for papers and presentations at the 4th International CDIO Conference. Proposals on any topic relevant to the CDIO Initiative and the conference theme "Active Engineering Education" are welcome. Proposals regarding one or more of the conference strands listed below are particularly welcome.
