Show who authored the suggestion from within the article

Edit this Page

Problem: It is not clear who created or last updated a suggestion article.

Solution: It would be nice to see, without having to check the history, who made the suggestion article, when viewing that article. I'd imagine the information included would be very similar as to that for comments: user picture and name.

PS: I know the "Contributors to this Page" will include the original author, but it is often not clear which contributor was the original author.

Yah, that'd work. You could put a little "creator" text above the avatar (though it sounds a little god-like :).

Or we can reserve the top left space of "Contributors to this page" section for page creator? And add an indication of such on the avatar? Icon or text or pop-up...

Another possibility is to just include the creator of the article below the suggestion text, in a very similar manner as the identifiers for comment writers. For example, include something like the following after the text of each suggestion.

Bowo, I think the "activity box?" is pretty width-challenged. Here's another suggestion for it.

Created: May 11, 2009 (user)
Updated: May 13, 2009 (user)
Viewed: 17 times
Page Status: active

The "user" links in the activity box would link to the user who created and last edited the page (respectively). Alternatively, you could just make the entire "Created: " line (or just the date) a hyperlink to the user who created the document and the "Updated: " a link to the last updater. Actually, a popup including the user link would probably be better than a straight hyperlink.

You could also always have the convention (documented somewhere) that the first "Contributors to this Page" are always the page creator and last updater (if there is one).

Angus, I'm not following your second sentence.

There has been some talk about showing this type on information on all WiserEarth pages. An alternative is to show the contributors with the bar below, like groups, i.e. in order of who has made the input/edits into that page.

Perhaps a simple text somewhere on all WE pages saying "Created by: username"?

Page info section on top-right corner? Change layout to:

Created: month dd, yyyy by usernameA

Updated: month dd, yyyy by usernameB

Viewed: n times  |  Page Status: active

This would also be a way to recognize/reward record creators and editors/commenters/raters.

True. I just think that a more automated way of including this information should be done.

In the cases where somebody writes a suggestion for someone else, then the "from" or "by" specification would be a natural addition to the suggestion text. However, you still want to know who actually created the suggestion article: I think that should always be clear without having to check the history.

The standard format for suggestions is to add 'by [username]' but not everyone is doing that. Best, Angus
