As enjoyable as it is to navigate the relationships and links that start with a map view, there is often so much information that it makes the map less useful.
What if a user could select what elements they want to see in the map, i.e. just areas of focus, or just events. I bet I would use the network map more frequently.

Yes, yes, yes - the whole search through map functionality needs to be improved with filtering and incorporating recommendations / ranking etc. Apparently the open source code on which this functionality runs is hard to adapt / improve.
As a simple first step I think we should have the network map show up as default rather than the text based network connections.
