Questions and Discussions relating to Out of Scope Organizations

While browsing through the site, you may see organizations that are flagged Out of Scope. This means that an organization's mission does not fit within the parameters that this community defines as sustainable. WiserEarth's directory focuses only on the organizations that are part of sustainable civil society. These organizations are all non-profit and non-governmental, but are also dedicated to overcoming inequality and environmental harm. The metrics for determining these characteristics have never been defined, and as a result, deciding on the appropriateness of an organization can be difficult. The following document will help you ascertain whether an organization meets the qualifications for a sustainable civil society.

The WiserEarth Content Standards outlines the parameters which have been created in order to classify all the organizations that are included within the WiserEarth database. We invite the community to discuss and question these guidelines whenever possible to ensure that WiserEarth truly serves the people who are transforming the world.
