Socially Responsible Investment

Definition

Socially responsible investment (SRI) refers to evaluating and choosing investment opportunities on the basis of social responsibility and environmental sustainability criteria, in addition to financial criteria. The scope of SRI ranges from an investment fund manager choosing to buy shares or invest equity in socially and environmentally responsible companies, to activism by shareholders who campaign to make companies improve their social and environmental record in their business activities.
