Inland Water Ecosystems

Inland waters make up a minute portion of the planet's water resources (less than one hundredth of one percent). Nevertheless, they are crucial to human survival, hold a disproportionate number of species (more threatened than either oceans or land species), and are central to sustainability issues. Inland water ecosystems include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, standing water, and wetlands.
