Temperate Broadleaf and Mixed Forests

Med_momiji Temperate broadleaf and mixed forests cover 7.5 million square kilometers. They include the mixed deciduous forests (China, U.S., Japan), the broadleaf evergreen forests (Japan, China, New Zealand), and the hard-leaf (sclerophyll) forests (Mediterranean and California). Many are impacted by fire, and few old-growth forest groves remain because of human use. They supply humans with hardwoods, chestnuts, and mushrooms, watershed protection, genetic reserves for tree plantation species, and recreation.
