Definition
Marine fish provide humans with food, oils, livestock fish meal and recreation. Fish also supply the aquarium trade. In some nations, 50 per cent of animal protein comes from fish. Over 25 percent of the 441 recorded marine fish stocks are over-exploited. Open access regimes, technology, wasteful bycatches, and inappropriate investment in fishing fleets continue to deplete fishing stocks.
