Sirenians

Sirenians

Dugongs, sea cows, and manatees, six species all told, are examples of sirenians. Sirenians are herbivorous aquatic mammals with massive, fusiform bodies that live in coastal waters and are members of the order Sirenia. They are scarce because humans have hunted them for food, hides, and oil, and have endangered their populations with powerboats. They are vulnerable to climate change.
