Local Food Systems
| Local food systems are the local and regional interconnected systems of food production, distribution, and consumption. Local food systems foster direct links between farmers and consumers, allowing consumers to know more about where their food comes from and how it is produced, while keeping income within the local economy and reducing the environmental damage caused by the long distance transportation of food. Local food systems rarely provide all food. usually grains come from more distant commercial markets. Their main goals in developed nations are improved quality of regional food and support for local rural farming communities. |

Local food sustainability is becoming more and more crucial. Combined with the current economic situation in the United States, I fear many people are going to be very hungery this winter. I only hope that come spring they will have the tools, imagination and courage to do what they will need to do and plough up the front and back yard and get the potato patch going!
