Mangrove Conservation

Mangrove habitat occurs in tidal estuaries and along coastlines in tropical regions where the soil and sediments are saline and waterlogged. Mangrove species, also known as mangal, include trees and shrubs that are able to grow in tropical and tidal saltwater, trapping sediment between their roots and providing defenses against coastal erosion. Conserving and preserving mangrove ecosystems involves protecting species habitat, providing buffers against waves, wind, tsunamis, and coastal erosion, and maintaining the spawning grounds for marine species that sustain local livelihoods.
